Thus begins an unlikely romance, and I love that the author did not stop at the culmination of the romance with marriage as too many novels do, but rather had the characters marry early on and then deal with genuine adjustment and communication issues and a major unforeseen change. Not only is Thayne not the right man her mother has planned for Mariette, but he has a shady past, which he says he has put behind him now. ![]() Mariette doesn’t know what she wants…until she runs into Thayne Scott, the mail clerk at her father’s factory. Her father wants her to take advantage of the new possibilities open for women and go to college. Guil wants the Player to realize the kind death he and Ros face. Angry and emotional (knowing that he is on the way to his own death), Guil attempts to teach the Player a lesson by stabbing him: to show him the difference between his acted deaths and real death. As he says, "You die a thousand casual deaths – with none of that intensity which squeezes out life … and no blood runs cold anywhere" (3.123). Guil is accusing the Player of not being able to capture death in his plays. First, Guil and the Player are arguing about death. We'll try to discuss a few of the more complicated aspects, but you might have other ideas to add, too. The ambassador announces that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead, and Horatio makes his final speech. Then the lights go up on the closing scene from Shakespeare's Hamlet. The stage goes dark, leaving Guil and Ros side by side in the dark (not too different from the beginning). The sentiment is so much so that only an "immortal hand" can frame, in other words handle or contain, the "fearful symmetry" of the Tyger. While the tiger may be beautiful and may stand out amongst other creatures and its environment, it is strong and terrifying. That fear is then moved forward and spoken of in the following two lines.
